Quilt Preparation
Just a few basic things to bear in mind before you deliver or send your quilt top to me:-
- Trim all your threads as they can show through the finished quilt.
- Please ensure that your quilt top is 'square'
- If you are supplying your own backing fabric and/or wadding they need to be at least 4” larger than the quilt top all the way round
- Press your quilt top and backing
- If the quilt has a particular direction, i.e. it has a top seam, please safety pin a label to it.
Custom Quilting
This is when the quilting is tailored to the design of the quilt. I can secure your quilt by stitching in the ditch, along with different block designs as well as free hand quilting. Please contact for more details.
Basting
I can baste you quilt top, wadding and backing securely together with large easily removable stitches, so that you can then machine or hand quilt it yourself.
Binding
I can attach a straight grain, 2 1/2” binding to your quilt, to be supplied by you with your quilt top. The binding will have mitered corners and, if required, can be hand finished to the back of the quilt.
Thread
I use Aurifil threads, which are 100% cotton, in a range of colours both solid and variegated and this is included in the price.
Wadding
If supplying your own wadding it must be at least 4” larger than your quilt top in all directions.
I stock two types of extra wide wadding
Soft & Bright @ £7.00 per metre
Sew Simple Super-Soft Cotton Blend @ £7.50 per metre
Backing Fabric
Again your backing fabric must be at least 4” larger than your quilt top in all directions.
I stock a variety of extra wide backing fabric (108”) at £14.00 per metre.
Completed Quilts
Your completed quilt can be collected from me at a mutually convenient time or if required, posted back to you. If I post your quilt it will be carefully wrapped in acid-free tissue paper and securely packaged. Return postage will be at cost including insurance. Quilts will be returned after the clearance of cheques.
